Welcome to the Cancer…Me? Really?? Website!
So what’s all this about then?
Well this is not a conventional blog, as such. This is not a website written to scare people either.
And its certainly not a ‘been there, done that, got the Cancer tee-shirt’ website!
What is it then?!?
Well, in November 2016 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Throughout my diagnosis, treatment and now recovery, I didn’t write about what I was going through. I just couldn’t.
But I’ve realised it’s NOW that I’ve found some therapy in writing. So I’m shedding a little light on my experience of Cancer. And maybe even be a little light-hearted about it.
After all, there have been many dark times. But lighter times have also shone through.
Yes – they have. Honestly. And some of things you just couldn’t make up!
But the emotional and physical effects any Cancer diagnosis has on a person, varies so vastly. Breast Cancer itself is often different from one person to the next.
It’s important to say at this early point in my story, that it’s perfectly fine to deal with it all in the way YOU want to. That ‘must carry on, I’m fine!’ attitude may be a great positive one to have, but on days when you feel so bad that the fixed grin can’t even hide it, then being angry, frustrated, hysterical or whatever you feel like being, is also very ‘fine’.
I am not going to say I completely understand how you feel if you’re reading this following a Cancer diagnosis, but I do understand something of how you are feeling. And – it’s cliche time (what already??) – it does make you look at life differently and realise what’s important. I didn’t think it would change me but I know it has.
So this is written by me, in my ‘way’ – a little humour, a little sarcasm, but with a lot of heart.
And importantly it’s written for you too, if you are going through treatment for, or recovering from Cancer, or if you’re close to someone who has. Hopefully – as I have found in speaking to people throughout this – you’ll get some reassurance that you’re not alone in feeling/looking/going through the things you are, have been, or about to.
Follow my story through the site and see if you can relate to any of this.
These are my experiences, my stories, my words.
